Manila amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers, 1978

 

     The State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety, regarding the requirements to the competence of engineers, including electro-technical engineers in high voltage management and operations as per Manila amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers, 1978, coming into force on 1st January, 2017, informs.

 

     Marine training institutes of Ukraine carry out training and updating/upgrading courses for engineer officers and electro-technical officers in accordance with educational and training programs, required by STWC Manila amendments, considering IMO Model Courses 7.02, 7.04, 7.08 and national requirements. The program of updating/upgrading courses for engineer officers and electro-technical officers is approved by the State Inspectorate of Ukraine for Maritime and Inland Water Transport Safety, assignee of which has become the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety.

     Educational and training programs include all requirements and ensure the STWC minimum standards of competence on training and updating/upgrading of engineer officers and electro-technical officers in high voltage management and operations (Table А-ІІІ/1, А-ІІІ/2, А-ІІІ/6).

     Besides, as per shipping companies request, seafarers can undergo additional extended courses with more profound theoretical and practical training in high voltage management and operations, using main switchboard duly equipped, at simulator training centers, which train seafarers and have relative equipment.
